Previously, searching for anything (e.g., users, articles, tags, etc.) on Hashnode was a bit tasky. You enter a word or phrase into the search engine, and it comes up with a stack of irrelevant information.
Not anymore! ๐
With our newly upgraded search engine, you can now see relevant results based on the filter selected.
How does it work?
We added 4 new filters to enable you to search for specific things.
For instance, if you wanted to search for a user named Catalin Pit on Hashnode, you'd have to click on the Search icon at the navbar.
On the Search page, you can either use the default Top filter, which will display at least 4 users, tags, and top posts from users named Catalin Pit
, or you click on People to see only users with that name.
An example of the results displayed when using the "People" filter.
Here's a breakdown of the new filters. ๐
- Top: This returns filtered results based on the best match. This include 4 (tags + user) + top posts. This means that unpopular posts will not be included.
- Latest: This returns the latest post based on best matched regardless of the post's popularity.
- Tag: This will display all the tags
- People: This will return all users based on the term or phrase you searched for.
New in-feed search on Hashnode.
We've added an in-feed Search option on your homepage. With this, you no longer have to go to hashnode.com/search
or click on the Search icon at the navigation bar to search for something on Hashnode.
As soon as you start typing in the homepage search bar, we will display the top 10 results based on your search. If you click on the Enter Key, you'll be sent to /search
to see more results.
One more thing ๐
We've also added a keyboard shortcut to make it easier for you to access the Search bar on the homepage. Just type in / on the homepage and it'll bring focus to the search bar.
